Flying snakes help scientists design new robots
Researchers explore the lift production mechanism of flying snakes
I promised you the bizarre. To me, something just doesn’t seem right about this. It is true nonetheless.
Flying snakes are a group of snakes that are native to Southeast Asia and are known for their ability to "fly" through the air by flattening their bodies and gliding from tree to tree. They are able to do this by moving their body in a particular way that allows them to generate lift, similar to the way an airplane's wings generate lift.
There have been several attempts to design robots that are inspired by the movements and behaviors of flying snakes. These robots are often designed to be lightweight and agile, with flexible bodies and the ability to move in a serpentine manner. They are typically intended for use in search and rescue operations or other situations where it is necessary to navigate through complex or difficult terrain.
Perhaps, it’s just me. Why am I not so sure these snakebots might be used for something more nefarious. What will they think of next? I don’t know but you’ll be the first to know when I find out. I watch those i don’t trust closely.
Take care!
