On 30 July 1915, after the U-28 sunk the British steamer Iberian, a creature resembling a gigantic crocodile was seen.
Then quickly disappeared from sight.
SM U-28 was indeed a German submarine that served during World War I. It was a Type U 27 class U-boat, which was a class of long-range submarines that were built for the Imperial German Navy (Kaiserliche Marine) during the war. The U-28 was commissioned into the German Navy on June 10, 1914, and it conducted several patrols during the war, sinking several ships. It was decommissioned on December 16, 1918, following the end of the war. That is the “normal” historical narrative.
But, that sub was involved in a strange event.
On 30 July 1915, Freiherr von Forstner reported a mysterious event after the U-28 sunk the British steamer Iberian. According to the commander: “The wreckage remained beneath the water for approximately twenty-five seconds, at a depth that was clearly impossible to assess, when suddenly there was a violent explosion which shot pieces of debris — among them a gigantic aquatic animal — out of the water to a height of approximately 80 feet.”
This creature was witnessed by the commander, the chief engineer, the navigator, and the helmsman. The commander reported that he couldn’t identify the creature, but he said that it resembled a crocodile. It was about 60 feet long, with four limbs resembling large webbed feet, a long, pointed tail, and a head which also tapered to a point. No photograph of the creature was taken as the animal sank out of sight after ten or fifteen seconds. A 60 foot long crocodile? Is that possible. Nobody knows but why would the crew make the story up? Did they want people to think they are crazy?
I doubt it, but we will never know what they say that day. Source:
